In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Jones Wooten in 1994; two brothers, Fred Wooten and Neville Wooten; one sister, Sue Wooten Roper; brother-in-law, Leonard Jones; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ethel Fox Jones and James Leonard Jones.
Mr. Wooten is survived by two sons, Dennis Paul Wooten and his wife, Carolyn of Creedmoor, NC and Douglas Edward “Eddie” Wooten and his wife, Anita of Knoxville, TN; four grandchildren, Kristin Peebles, Matthew Wooten, Hope Wooten, and Paul Wooten; and one great-grandchild, Madison Peebles; a loving friend, Betty McKay of Franklin, NC; one brother, Bruce Wooten of Franklin, NC; three sisters, Catherine Ray, Shirley Shuler and Agnes Tardy, all of Franklin, NC; six sister-in-laws, Ruby Cabe of Franklin, NC, Annie Nell Crowe of Elizabethton, TN, Mildred Conner of Brevard, NC, Christine Swanson of Locust, NC, Evelyn Sheffield and Bessie Cogdill, both of Sylva, NC.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was employed by Western Carolina Telephone Company and worked for Contel for over 37 years. He also served on the Clayton Housing Authority Board and was a faithful member of Clayton Church of God.
The family received friends at Beck Funeral Home on Sunday, June 8, from 1-8 p.m. Funeral service was held Sunday, June 8, at 3 p.m., in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bryan Alexander, Rev. James Pendrey and Rev. Clark Sheffield officiating. Burial followed in Clarks Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery, 1999 Chapel Road, Franklin, NC 28734.
