Born in Macon County, NC, he was the son of the late Harley Stanfield and Esther Holland Stanfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Bobbie Hopper Stanfield who died in 1991; son, Gary Stanfield; grandson, Stephen Stanfield; three sisters and five brothers.
Preleau was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and retired from GM after 31 years as an electrician; he was also a member of the VFW Post 7339. When not farming or working in the apple orchard, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by a son, Larry Stanfield and wife Donna of Ontario, OH; daughter-in-law, Jan Stanfield of Franklin; two grandchildren, Cindy Stanfield and Tim Stanfield; two brothers, William Stanfield and Harley Stanfield, Jr., both of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 25, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Alton Dendy will officiate. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery with military rites conducted by the VFW Post 7339 and the American Legion Post 108.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 24, at Macon Funeral Home.
VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108 will serve as Pallbearers.
