Edward Erling Nelson, 74, of Franklin, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2014. 

Born in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late Erling Nelson and Martha Vancliff Largo. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son, Edward William Nelson who died December 16, 2006. Ed was a US Army veteran; a retired NY City Fireman and Fire Marshall; member of the enforcer’s motorcycle club, member of the Masonic Lodge, was a former Boy Scout Leader, Little League Coach, Pilot, avid outdoorsman and enjoyed dirt track racing. He attended Holly Springs Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Roberta Hamersly Nelson; son, Scott Nelson and wife Alice of Franklin; one brother, Dominic Largo of Staten Island, NY; two sisters, Lena Post of Walden, NY and Jeanette O’Shaea of Tobyhanna, PA; three grandchildren, Savanna Claire Nelson, Edward Sean Nelson and Garrett Scott Nelson and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, at Holly Springs Baptist Church. Dr. Charles Harris and Rev. Brandon Breedlove officiated. Burial was in the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic rites conducted by the Junaluskee Masonic Lodge No. 145. 

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, May 12, at Macon Funeral Home.  

Pallbearers were Bobby Young-Enforcers MC, Steve Williams-Enforcers MC, Michael Duffy-Enforcers MC, Clay Bryson-MCSO, Dereck Jones-MCSO and Brent Holbrooks-MCSO. Garrett Nelson-Grandson served as Honorary Pallbearer. 

Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC  28215.
