FERNANDINA BEACH, FLORIDA – Mildred Janette Bryson Lewis, 99, passed away peacefully with hospice on July 5, 2021, in her home.

Mildred was born on July 4, 1922, in Franklin, to the late Thomas Newton Bryson and Ethel Leona (Evans) Bryson.

Mildred retired from Bellsouth/AT&T where she worked as a PBX operator (oh the stories she could tell), Customer Service Rep, and Trainer.

She had three sons: Gordon Bryson Lewis, Andrew Clark Lewis, and Steven Laurence Lewis.

Mildred loved to travel. She attended Adventures in Learning and was able to take numerous group trips to Europe. She enjoyed reading, learning history, and doing crossword puzzles. She was always up for a new adventure such as belly dancing, tai chi, water aerobics, driving cross country with her close friend (Thelma and Louise), and going to San Francisco with her eldest son, Bryson.

Mildred leaves behind her sister, Betty Loraine (Bryson) Gregory; sons, Andrew Clark Lewis and Steven Laurence Lewis; daughter-in-law, Marie Elena (Morris) Lewis; grandchildren, Andrew Clark Lewis Jr., Jennifer Kimtong (Lewis) Christner, David Brandon Lewis, Briana Janette (Lewis) Mayhall, Justin Scott Thornton, Jarret Andrew Thornton; great-grandchildren, Dakota Jacob Lewis, and Mason Fox Lewis; and daughter-in-love Carol Redding, as well as many close friends.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Madge Annie (Bryson) Mobley and Ethyleen Evans (Bryson) Hobbs; her child, Gordon Bryson Lewis; and her partner in crime Shirley Henson.

 Mildred will be cremated and interred at her father’s gravesite at a future date.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or Habitat for Humanity.
