FRANKLIN - Martha Rainer, 93, died on Nov. 27, 2021. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Franklin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021. Rev. Tempe Fussell will officiate.

Martha was born in Elba, Alabama, in 1928 to Franks Hendrick Rainer and Sara Farris Rainer. She attended Auburn University before transferring to Troy State University, where she received an undergraduate degree in physical education and a master’s in education.

A talented artist, she taught art and physical education for many years in Alabama, Florida and Georgia. After retiring, she opened a jewelry store in Albany, Georgia, before retiring again and moving to Franklin, where she has resided for the last 21 years. She enjoyed reading, traveling, gem mining, collecting flamingo memorabilia, and cheering for her beloved Auburn Tigers. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Franklin and was an elder in the church.

She was preceded in death by Frank Hendrick and Sara Farris Rainer, parents; Frank and Young Wood Rainer, her brothers; nephew Ronald Wood Rainer.

She is survived by four nieces, Charlotte West of Cary, Deborah Lewis of Milton, Florida, Marilyn Patterson of Birmingham, Alabama, and Nancy Watson of Auburn, Alabama. She is also survived by Beverly Linton, her primary caregiver and friend.
