Madison, Alabama - Helen Gibbs Higdon, 99, of Sylva, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020. Helen had been a resident of the Morningside of Madison in Madison, Alabama for the past 18 months.
A native of Leicester, North Carolina, Helen was born on Feb. 21, 1921. She was the middle child of the late Thomas Carl Gibbs and Ollie Martin Gibbs. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Woodrow Higdon, and daughter Roxanna Geeslin.
Helen is survived by her son, Mitchell Higdon; grandchildren Elliott and Devin Higdon, William and Thomas Geeslin (Jana) and Elizabeth McAteer (Mike); and two great-grandchildren, John David and Harper Jane Geeslin.
Helen was a very devoted member of the Weslyanna United Methodist church in Sylva. She was a loving and involved parent, enjoyed playing cards with friends, knitting baby gifts and adored watching her great-grandchildren play.
A direct graveside service for immediate family and close friends will be held on Oct. 10, 2020 at the Stillwell Cemetery in Sylva. As an expression of sympathy, contributions may be sent to a charity of your choosing.
